Get the best memory performance on the new Intel Core2 Duo HP Workstations
HP’s new workstations based on the Intel Core 2 Duo are dual channel (xw4400) or 4 channel (xw6400, xw8400) fully buffered memory subsystems. To get the best performance on memory intensive operations, you should fill up as many slots as possible.
The Chart below shows various size memory sizes in the xw8400 running a memory intensive benchmark Stream-v2.out. As expected the largest memory configuration 8x1G is the fastest. However, notice that the 4 1GB DIMMs are faster than 1 4GB DIMM memory confirmation even though they are exactly the same amount of memory installed.
The xw8400 supports up to 32GB via 4GB DIMMs in 8 DIMM slots. The xw6400 supports up to 16GB via 4GB DIMMs in 4 DIMM slots and the xw4400 supports up to 8GB via 4 DIMM slots.
